What is DI?

Destination ImagiNation® (DI) is the world's largest Creative Problem Solving program from Kindergarten through College. DI is a non-profit organization governed by a board of volunteers. DI's challenges (competitive problems offered for solution by the teams) are also written by volunteers and its tournaments are staffed by volunteers. DI Teams can be registered online. Registered teams have access to the full text of challenges and to any clarifications that may be issued to the challenges.

What is Creative Problem Solving?

The short answer is that Creative Problem Solving is fun!

A longer answer is that Creative Problem Solving (CPS) gives teams of five to seven members the freedom to tackle carefully written and reviewed challenges with theatrical and technical, building and improvisational, artistic and scientific elements. Teams must solve their challenges all by themselves, with no outside help. Challenges come in two varieties - to be solved with several months of planning, construction and practise - or to be solved with only a few minutes to understand and improvise. Teams in age classes from elementary school to college may choose between five different long term Team Challenges. Each challenge has a different central emphasis, but all challenges include a mix of all types of required elements.

Teams share their solutions - with a special theatrical flare - at local, state or even international tournaments. The real magic happens at home or school during team meetings, as teams realize the value of the all too rare gift of being encouraged to design and build a solution that is all their own. Creative muscles grow stronger with exercise!

We must be the change we wish to see in the world. - Gandhi
